Greetings,
The Academy for Educational Development (AED) is pleased to share updated information with your university regarding the Iraq Education Initiative. The program is administered by the Higher Committee for Education Development (HCED) in Iraq, which is associated with the Office of the Prime Minister and separate from the Ministry of Higher Education.
Current Goal
HCED's goal is to send 100 students to the United States by January 31, 2010. These students will be followed by approximately 200 additional students (undergraduate, graduate and PhD) in February and March. The HCED is nearing completion of student interviews and final selection of scholarship recipients. The next steps are placement, admissions, and the visa process.
Core Schools for Pilot Year Placement
HCED is narrowing down a list of approximately 50 core schools for pilot year student placement based on the following factors: -English language training on or near campus -Conditional admissions for degree study -Ability to issue DS-2019 forms for J-1 visas -Acceptance of scanned application files, including transcripts and letters of reference (originals upon student's arrival on campus) -Utilization of a common application for the American Universities Iraq Consortium
HCED may use more schools, but they are aiming for a short list to start with.
We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.
Sincerely, Sandra MacDonald Advisor to the HCED and Vice President and Director AED Center for Academic Partnerships
