What to Bring (optional) SIU students at reenactment
• Traditional clothing (if possible)—to wear during the Cultural Fair, Washington, D.C. Conference.
• Cultural Music—CD’s, tapes, etc.
• Postcards or Photos of your country that you may wish to give to Americans.

Clothing
• Summer in most regions of the U.S. is fairly warm, with daytime temperatures ranging from 70F to 90F degrees. Depending on location, nights may be either warm or quite cool, so bring a jacket if possible.

• Most American college/university students dress casually, wearing jeans, or shorts if the weather is warm. Women may also wear informal dresses or skirts.

• One set of formal wear (suits and dresses) for your Washington, DC visit.

Prescription Medications
Be sure to bring any required prescriptions or medications with you. Medications should be clearly labeled and in their original containers. If you wear eyeglasses, bring an extra pair with you. Please carry these items with you in your carry-on baggage.

Airport Arrival
• Your Embassy (not AED) will make international travel arrangements.
• AED will be in constant communication with Department of State staff and college/university staff to ensure your safe arrival to the U.S. and your campus.
• Staff at your designated campus will make arrangements to meet you at the airport and take you to your residence.
• Your first class session will include an orientation of the campus and surrounding area.

Health Benefits Plan
All students will be enrolled in the Department of State's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) Accident and Sickness Program for Exchanges (ASPE), administered by Seven Corners. AED will assist students in filing medical forms and healthcare claims.

Monthly Stipend
Students will receive a monthly stipend during their time in the United States.

Housing
Students will be housed in residence halls on or near campus, or with host families. All students will have the opportunity to meet Americans and observe daily life in the community.

Meals
• Meals are provided through dining halls or cafeterias on college/university campuses. Dining halls/cafeterias can accommodate special dietary needs, including halal or vegetarian meals.
• Taking your meals at the campus cafeterias or dining halls is usually the most convenient option.
• You will also be provided with a small stipend if you wish to cook your own meals.

Transportation
• Whether students reside on-campus or off-campus, you will be within an easy commute of your classes.
• During orientation, you will be escorted from your residence to your classrooms, so that you learn to navigate around the campus.

Library and Computer Lab Access
All students will be provided with access to the college/university library system and to computer labs in order to conduct research and/or complete class assignments.
You will be provided with a student identification card (ID card) that will allow you access to campus facilities for undergraduate students.
